Keeping Lagos Clean
Many Lagosians suit-up and are driven to work in their fancy cars every weekday not having a single conscience over who keeps their streets clean. I have witnessed people throwing wastes out of their cars unto the roads, or local shop owners piling up waste just along the roadways.
"The Lagos state waste management Authority, LAWMA evaluates 10,000 tonnes of refuse daily" (www.premiumtimesng.com). Managing Director of LAWMA, Ola Oresanya points out indiscriminate dumping of refuse as a major challenge to the agency, stating that "Lagosians still have this bad habit of throwing wastes from their cars and still dumping wastes in unauthorised areas." (www.premiumtimesng.com).
Obalende - Keep Lagos Clean
It's been over 5 years the LAWMA officials have been keeping the streets of Lagos clean. Mainly adults over the age of 30, they are mostly women and are provided with bright colored uniforms with handy cleaning equipments. These really hard working Nigerians will put their lives at risk in order to keep the streets of Lagos clean.

Of course i'm not the only one who has this oppinion about littering the streets, there are many who feel the need for change when it comes to keeping the streets of Lagos clean. May Samuel, a good Lagosian who made a short post on www.nairaland.com stated that "it is unfortunate that those we ought to appreciate are those we neglect. I as a person can not do that job but i appriciate and will do all in my power to encourage anybody who takes aside shame and do the job." His short post brought so many together who felt the same way and i'm proudly one of them.

What worries me the most are the careless drivers who barely pay any attention to 'LAWMA at work' when driving. A reader who was moved by May Samuel's post had this to say; "Actually i know one dude that hit one of them around 4am with his car while DRUNK. The girl later got her leg amputated. What happened to the dude? Nothing, he only paid her hospital bills and gave her some change to buy provisions" (Aloy Emeka).
